It Could Happen to You!

La Escuelita Student Contributor Ismael, Age 17

All of us have gambled at some point in our lives, but few of us have realized that what we do to pass lunchtime could bury us by becoming a habit--or worse, an addiction.

Gambling is like a drug. Once you try it, it is hard to quit--but not impossible. You might get used to the feeling of excitement. You might even think those persons around you are your friends when all they are in it for is the money.

This addiction might not affect your nervous system as drugs do. However, it makes you spend all the money you have and maybe even steal from people who trust and love you, just to have more to spend on gambling. Gambling is just like drugs. It doesn't distinguish between races and it doesn't make any difference if you are poor or rich.

It isn't only those who gamble who come out of this wounded; it is our society and ultimately the health of our planet. So what is the moral of my story? It is really super easy: 1. Don't do things that can hurt your health, and 2. Take care of your future.
