Dear Andy,

This may sound dumb but my friend is stealing stuff from stores and then returning it for money. I’m afraid I am going to get in trouble because I am with him. There is this older kid that my friend plays poker with all the time and I think that is what he needs money for. My friend sold his bike, too. What should I do? I’m 12 and my friend is 13.

Dear Sammy,

First, don’t go into stores with your friend. You sure could get caught up in his problems. Second, your friend needs some help. Tell your friend just what you told me – that you are worried about his stealing and gambling. Then tell him you don’t know what to do so you are going to talk it over with your parents (or school counselor or other trusted adult). Third – let me know what happens.
