Dear Andy,

Give me a straight answer, here. My friends and I bet money playing poker everyday after school. That's not betting, right? Gambling is when you go into a casino and play blackjack or roulette or slots, right? My friend's older sister said both are gambling and since we are 15 we shouldn't be playing poker all of the time. Who is right?

Derek, age 15

Dear Derek,

Straight answer - not you.

Underage gamblers (you and your friends) have a high rate of becoming addicted to gambling. An addiction to gambling is like an addiction to alcohol. Alcohol is beer, wine, wine coolers, bourbon, etc. Gambling is poker, blackjack, lottery and slots. See how it is the same? Stay away from gambling - just remember the football scholarship that I lost because of my addiction to gambling. You can get hooked so fast! Your friends older sister is smart - say, does she have a boyfriend? She can email me
too.

Andy
