I remember how lonely I was.  One of the reasons I got hooked is because I was lonely and I could pretend that all of the people at the casino were my friends.  Now that I am in recovery, I have a few close friends - real friends - and I have a dog.

Thanks for your letter, Brian.  You wanted to know what made me begin gambling and the forms of gambling I did.  I gambled for a lot of reasons but mostly because I never felt that I was good enough.  Like my dog, I thought I looked goofy and didn't fit in.  After I got my football scholarship, you would expect that I would feel GREAT, but I felt that the scholarship was a mistake and soon they would figure out that I wasn't good enough.  I wanted to be liked by others and when someone asked me to go to the casino - I went becuse I wanted to hang out with those kids.  My dad asked me not to go but I went anyway. 

These are a few of the reasons why I began gambling.  I played cards also.   The favorite types of gambling for kids are cards, games of skill like pool and sports betting - mostly with friends ( not a bookie).
