Welcome to the first issue of Wanna Bet? Magazine! My name is Carrie, and I am the editor of Wanna Bet?. This is a magazine by kids for kids, and it will focus on gambling issues for kids. We have a junior editor, Amanda H., who will be writing articles and serving as a co-editor for this column. Check out her article, How Kids Can First Get Hooked on Gambling. We also have a group of kids on our Advisory Board who help create each issue of the magazine.

Gambling has been around since the beginning of civilization. The Bible mentions gambling as "casting lots." Lotteries, which started in Europe, were used by the United States Government to help finance the American Revolution and the Civil War. Today, it is possible to place a legal bet in 48 of the 50 states.

Although gambling has many benefits, it also carries certain risks. One of those risks is for young people. We want to educate young people and open discussions with you about the dangers and risks involved with underage and problem gambling. That is why we decided to start this magazine for kids.

In each issue you will find letters to the editor, an advice column Ask Andy, articles,  questions and surveys, and healthy options for kids instead of gambling.

Tell us what things you like and what you don’t like by sending a letter to the Wanna Bet?Magazine Staff at wannabet@wannabet.org  or by completing our Reader's Survey.

Enjoy!

Carrie
